I
became a Geico customer in 2000. Still had them up until 4 months
ago. I have a 1995 Jeep Wrangler and a 1997 Nissan Altima. My wife
drives the Jeep, I drive the Altima. We own them outright so we
didn't opt for any comprehensive.
We
relocated from Florida to Warwick, RI ( that's another story) in
June 2004. We came up here with just the Altima and our rate from
$700/year to $1000 year and that's with low liability coverage ($50,000/100,000).
We bought the Wrangler in October and our rate exactly doubled to
$2000. Where's the discount there? We both have no tickets or accidents.
We know New England is expensive but c'mon. So I surfed around and
ended up on a site called lower my bills.com.
They have an online application and will get auto insurance quotes
from a few companies. I received a quote, for the same coverage,
from Traveler's for $1200 per year. That is quite a drop. I then
asked Geico to match it and I would stay. They sent an e-mail about
how great there claims department is, etc. etc.... They then sent
me an e-mail where I was to look at my new updated auto quote...they
hadn't updated anything, the rate was the same! I transferred to
Traveler's insurance and have had no problems. One can find cheap
inexpensive auto insurance by just perusing the internet.
I am still waiting for the Geico man to show up at my door as I
am one of the 3% of folks that weren't satisfied.
I
strongly encourage people to get a new car insurance quote yearly
as insurance companies will lure you in with a low rate at first
and then gradually increase the premium over time.
