Cat Scratching Post with Platforms:

Cat declawing is unnecessary. There are a few techniques that will take care of a scratching cat.

First off, realize that there is no way to stop a cat from scratching. They do it to mark territories, for exercise and plus, they really love it. A sofa is appealing for a cat to scratch on but this scratching post does nothing to keep kitty in the owner's good graces. So it is important to provide a satisfactory alternative to the furniture that the cat might be using now. The best solution is a cat scratching post with a platform on it.

The cat scratching post should be tall enough for a full grown cat to fully stretch out. 29 inches and up is a sufficient height. It should have a wide enough base so as not to tip over. I have a cat scratch post that I purchased online for around $59. It was made with sisal fabric and this does seem to be preferred to regular rope by my cats. Sisal is a natural fiber that, because of it's durability, is preferred for carpets. It works quite well for cat scratching posts as well.

I've always had a cat scratching post with platforms on it. The cats seem to enjoy sitting on top of it.

A cat scratching post is a great first start for keeping those cats from clawing up the furniture
