What
is Hoodia?? It could, quite possibly, be the best thing for obese
people since Nutrasweet. Let me tell you about it..
Hoodia
is a cactus like plant - looks like a a spiny cucumber, that is
found in the Kalahari Desert in southern Africa. Bushmen, there,
have been eating this plant for centuries to fight off hunger pangs
during long hunting trips. The numerous reports that I have read
leaves me with little doubt that the gordonii variation of
Hoodia suppresses appetites. This type of hoodia contains a molecule
(P57) that has similar effects on nerve cells as glucose, and tricks
the brain into the sensation of fullness. Apparently, it has been
proven to reduce caloric intake by 1000 calories per day.
Hoodia
was profiled on 60 Minutes last year and Leslie Stahl even tried
some and her appetite vanished for the rest of the day.
Hoodia
is available in pill, capsule and liquid form. It is a bit expensive
at around $40 a bottle but that should be coming down as large plantations
of Hoodia are being grown in South Africa. Synthetic varieties of
Hoodia are not a viable alternative to the natural variety as it
is too expensive to produce in any large quantities.
