Understanding
Beekeeping!
In this day
and age when all of us have been reared to purchase food in a box
or can ready to eat, we forget things were not always this way.
While mankind has their own set of rules, we have to remember that
Mother Nature has her own set of rules that she follows and to break
her rules causes much havoc and difficulty in mans living.
In the spring the sun rises earlier and earlier, the temperature
turns from winters cold to springs warmth, which causes
plants to bud and flowers to bloom. The plant blooms yield pollen
and nectar. The nectar entices all of the pollinating insects to
come begin their chores bringing life to the plants and flowers
to produce nectar to feed the pollinating insects. All of nature
works together in the scheme of creation.
Items to
remember when receiving a new batch of bees:
Always follow
the general instructions such as brushing sugar syrup on the screen
wire until the bees are gorged and they will take no more, install
the bees in their hive an hour before dark so they will have all
night to reorganize and to get used to their environment. Follow
the usual simple rules of checking the queen before you place her
between the frames and pour the bees over the top of the frames
or either put an empty super over the hive. Leave the package in
with the package cover off so they will crawl out and cluster around
the queen. Continue feeding your bees a rich sugar syrup mixture
being very careful not to spill the syrup. Watch for robbing bees
from other colonies that may be in the neighborhood and may interfere
with their installation. Good luck, sit back and enjoy watching
your bees.
