Ralphy
Has Ear Mites
"Mommy!"
my four-year-old squealed with delight, "Ralphy shakes his
head to answer when I ask him questions!"
Unfortunately,
our poor dog had bigger problems than being asked hundreds of questions
by my preschooler. He had ear mites. In case you don't know, ear
mites are a parasite. Yuck! They can live on your dog's or cat's
fur, and they can cause him or her a lot of discomfort. They itch,
they can cause infection, and they can even lead to your pet going
deaf!
At
first, we didn't know what was wrong with good old Ralphy. He just
kept shaking his head. We took him to the vet, and she figured it
out in no time. She said that we needed to treat him to get rid
of the ear mites, and that they are contagious. Not good news for
our other dog!
I looked
online and found information that said flea treatments would cure
the problem, but they didn't. We had to purchase special ear mite
medicine - Ivermectin. We found some online and it wasn't very expensive
or difficult to use. We found the liquid Ivermectin dosage right
on the box.
Ralphy
is much happier, but my little girl is a bit put off that he no
longer answers her questions!
