Corn Burners & Pellet Stoves - How They Work from Schmeg.com

Corn Stoves & Wood Pellet Stoves Research:

With the recent run-up in fuel prices, I have been looking at alternatives to replace my aging oil-fired steam burner. Having been the original burner that came with the house when it was first built in 1945, it looks like a super-sized C-3PO from Star Wars and is very inefficient. Newer oil burners are cool to the touch while this asbestos behemoth gets quite hot as it is wasting fuel heating up my basement. With high oil prices, this is quite irritating. I started looking at natural gas stoves: Natural gas is too pricey right now, while bottled gas is more expensive than wood. Wood stoves are too much of a pain with finding and storing the wood, not to mention dealing with the messy ash and soot laden chimney. Electric heat would require me winning the lottery, so that's out. That only leaves wood/corn pellet stoves left as a possible alternative to my oil-burner. Fortunately they do pass the muster and only have a few drawbacks.
