Free Used Car Selling Tips: |
|
Believe
it or not, a few minutes' worth of work with your car can increase
the re-sale or trade-in value of your car by several hundred dollars
or more when you decide to sell it. Some of the things that you
can do, such as detailing the inside and outside, seem obvious,
but there are a few "hidden" secrets that will help bring
you more money: something that will make every owner happy.
The
most obvious thing to do is give the car a good, thorough cleaning
inside and out. Vacuuming, washing and waxing will improve the car's
appearance, making it more appealing to buyers. Nobody will want
to pay your full asking price if there is sticky candy in the ashtray,
streaks of mud and road dirt running up both sides of the body,
and crusty bug stains on the windshield. Get outside with the water
hose and a soft rag, even if you are planning on trading this vehicle
in at a dealership. The less work they have to do, the more willing
they'll be to offer you more for the trade-in.
When
you are cleaning the car, be sure to get the undercarriage and other
"hidden" areas. This will do more than just make sure
the buyers who actually look under it are satisfied: it will also
clear out any built-up dirt or debris that can contribute to poor
steering, rattling, and other small problems.
Make
sure that you have thorough and accurate maintenance records. This
should include oil changes, repairs, and anything else that is done
with your car while it is in your possession. Many buyers will feel
better about paying your asking price if you can prove that the
vehicle has been treated well. When you can, provide official receipts
from mechanics, garages, and parts houses. Where you cannot, provide
a log book with dates of oil changes, filter replacements, and other
maintenance.
